Add custom data type URL

Hi all

We would like to have a data type “URL” for our datasets. I have found a setting for the licenses that we can freely add and remove, but I haven’t found one for data types. There are datatypes that we never use (JSON, IP-address), and others that we would like to have, such as URL.

Where can we add new data types in the backoffice?

Or do we need Huwise to add that? If so, the base type of URL should be a string. Our dataportal is here: data.bs.ch

Best regards

Renato

Hello,

Thank you for your message.

You can’t add new data types in the backoffice. We have to do that on our side. But first, we’ll need to fully understand your need. Could you elaborate on why do you specifically need an URL type ?

Regards,

Anthony

Hi Anthony

Thank you for your reply!

We’d need that primarily for making data validation easier. If a field is marked as URL, we hope to be able to make automated requests once a year or so to these URLs to check whether they are still valid or need to be updated. Outdated links are tedious to find, so if we could just go through all the text fields that are marked as URLs, that would make our job a lot easier. We don’t need any validation (i.e. if there is an http or https, whether there is a www, etc.). Functionally it should be the same as a simple string.

Best regards,

Renato
