We’ve recently received some questions regarding how geographic point previews behave when transitioning from the old experience to the new experience, specifically around map zoom levels. We wanted to share some context behind this design choice and how you can best navigate it.
🔍 What changed?

Old experience: clicking a single row/point zoomed directly in on that specific coordinate.

New experience: clicking a point now displays a global map view showing the geographic coverage of the entire dataset, with the selected point highlighted within that context.
💡 Why was this change made?
This was an intentional product design decision.
While zooming in directly on a single point can be useful, it often lacks visual context. For example, if a point is located in a rural area, a forest, or in the middle of the ocean, a close-up zoom doesn't provide enough surrounding landmarks to help users figure out where that point actually is relative to the rest of the data.
By default, showing the broader dataset coverage gives immediate regional and global context to every selected point.
🛠️ Need a zoomed-in view? Recommended workarounds
We understand that for certain workflows, seeing a close-up view of a specific record is preferred. Here are the best ways to achieve that:

Use the map view: switch to the dataset's map view tab. From there, users can freely zoom, pan, and inspect individual points with exact spatial context.

Custom map views: you can configure a custom map view tailored specifically to highlight and zoom into specific areas or points as needed.
