Hi,

Is it possible to make a user an “admin” of a certain group, or is there any the blanket permission to allow users to edit all groups?

Essentially we are in a project with a 3rd party where we want them to be able to add users to a group that has bespoke permissions to certain datasets, but we dont want to give this 3rd party the ability to edit all the groups on the portal. So if we can let them just add users to their one group, that would be very useful!

Thanks

Ryan

We’re currently thinking about introducing a “maintainer” concept for groups. The idea would be to allow specific users to manage only a given group (for example, adding/removing users) without giving them permissions to edit all groups on the portal.

In your case, would the objective only be user management for that group, or would you also expect additional permissions/features?

Hi!

We may also benefit from a feature similar to this. We would like to share some data assets privately, to different user groups, where a “user group admin” for each group, could be entitled to add/remove/change permissions to the other users in that group.

This would allow to, for example, share a private dataset (or part of a dataset) with a user group comprising municipal technicians or consultants, that are given permission to access that data /by the admin (e.g. the Mayor of the municipality).

This would require a simple way for this “user group admin” user to access an “access management” page or area of the portal, where he could review, add, remove, etc. the users in his specific group.

Hope this is clear.

Thank you

Hi,

Could you please clarify your exact expectations for this 'Group Admin' role?

Just to be clear on a technical level: we cannot implement fine-grained permissions per individual user for each data asset, as that would completely defeat the purpose of having a group.

However, we could design the Group Admin's role to manage two clean levels:

  1. Group membership: Adding or removing users (who then automatically inherit the group's rights).

  2. Group-level permissions: Managing what the entire group can access (e.g., the Mayor deciding that the whole 'Technicians' group now has access to a new dataset).

Does this approach align with what you have in mind?

Hi Ama,

For our use case, simply the ability to add and remove users is what we are after. I think we as the Portal wide admins would still want to control what actual permissions the group has for security reasons

Thanks
