It’s more supporting richer website capability - some examples are 

Section sizing – the ability to adjust section heights (e.g. controlling map height directly).

Section overlay – placing text boxes over images (e.g. header text over a banner image at the top of the page).

Background sectioning and colouring – allowing different sections of the page to have distinct background colours
